January - FCFC Mentoring begins partnering with the Amachi Mentoring initiative. Mentors meet weekly with a child who has been carefully matched with them. Our hope is that one-to-one mentoring by caring adults will significantly improve the life opportunities of the children.

2009

October - FCFC celebrates the annual "Lights on Afterschool" initiative with a special tree planting by children from one of our Whiz Kidz afterschool sites.

FCFC joins a national mentoring initiative that connects caring adults to young people with the goal of enriching the lives of both “mentor and mentee”. Funding by OJJDP

The Children of Inmates (COI) program at FCFC continues to assist children with incarcerated parents to find the support and resources they need to grow into healthy, responsible adulthood. Along with coordinating bus trips to three different jail centers in Florida, COI also promotes bond building and communication between the families through letter writing sessions.In ad -dition, FCFC provides a venue for video conferencing between the children and  incarcerated parents.

 

2008

FCFC brings together over 80 youth-serving organizations to begin YouthLINK. Activities included special events with the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat.

FCFC becomes a collaborative partner in Miami NICE and Yvonne Sawyer begins providing customized assistance to a number of non-profits selected for these services. Funding from Department of HHS -  Compassion Capital Fund 

October 22-28 -  FCFC hosts the annual conference of the Christian Community Development Association in downtown Miami at the Hyatt Regency and Knight Center. Over 2,500 participants networked, attended workshops, visited local Miami attractions and heard plenary speakers challenge and encourage attendees to restore at-risk communities. 

2007

          
February  - FCFC hosts the Christian Community Development Association CCDA Institute - Over 60 participants hear urban practitioner Bob Lupton explain how to improve our inner city neighborhoods with disadvantaging the poor and how to develop ministries that truly give a "hand up" instead of a hand out.

March - WAIT Training -  Ninety attendees expernienced an informative and practical two-day workshop focused on helping youth make wise choices concerning their health, personal relationships and future well being.

July - FCFC is awarded a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services for community-based abstinence education. In three years, Project U Turns has encouraged 18,000 students to set personal goals for their future,  thereby helping them to avoid high-risk behaviors which can lead to teen pregnancy and STDs.

Artology Summer Performing Arts Camp is launched, summer, 2007, with funding from the Children's Trust and Miami Dade Cultural Affairs. Sixty children were offered an introduction to the performing arts
through dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. Sweet Home Missionary Baptist church of Perrine serves as host.

Other highlights of '07

FCFC joins the Service Network for Children of Inmates designed to assure that children with an incarcerated parent will have opportunities to be cared for and supported in their development by responsible adults, helping professionals  and others in their communities. Funding from The Children's Trust

FCFC begins the Leaders Club Middle School Program. Hundreds of students explored practical ways
to stay away from harmful influences, drugs, smoking and gang activity. Funding from The Children's Trust

FCFC initiates "Salsa, Sabor y Salud" (Food, Fun and Fitness) a healthy lifestyles program designed especially for families with children under twelve. Funded provided by Kraft Foods. 

2005 - 2006

Mayor Manuel Diaz’ Capacity Building Workshops

As part of Mayor Diaz’ effort to enhance efforts of the faith community to help bring hope and healing to our communities, FCFC is offering workshops to strengthen these faith groups. Topics have include: 2005 Getting Ready for Grant Money, How to Keep the Grant Funds Coming, Community Needs Information required for successful grant proposals, Turning your ministry or program ideas into action 2006 Creating Fundable Youth Programs, How to Help People in Crisis (in partnership with Switchboard of Miami).

FCFC/Children’s Trust Summer Programs

During June and July ’05, FCFC (The Children's Trust funding), provided children with quality summer programs through churches in Liberty City, Hialeah, Opa-Locka, Miami Gardens and Kendall. Activities included arts and crafts, sports & snacks, academics, field trips, medical screenings and more.

After School Programs

FCFC and the Children’s Trust partnered to provide after school programs in churches and schools in Opa Locka, Liberty City, Miami Gardens and Hialeah.

Florida International University
Research project HHS Compassion Capital Fund

FIU is researching both residential substance abuse and at-risk youth programs (both fbo’s & cbo’s) in Dade County. FCFC served as project consultant.

JUNE 2004 - JULY 2004

Time of Their Lives Summer Program

During June and July ’04, FCFC, with funding from The Children's Trust, assisted churches in Little Haiti, Allapattah, Liberty City, Hialeah and Goulds in outreach to their neighborhoods with summer camp programs. Over 900 children participated in daily activities which included arts and crafts, sports & snacks, academics, field trips, medical screenings and more.Photos and details: http://www.fcfcfl.org/news.htm.

MARCH/JUNE 2004

Strong Families Parenting Project

From March to June, 2004, FCFC, Miami’s River of Life, Elijah Network and Trinity Church partnered with churches to create family violence prevention programs in Liberty City, Goulds, North Miami and Hialeah. 90 families attended Parenting Skills classes which helped parents and their children improve family communication, lower stress in their life and discover ways to reduce conflict at home. In addition, the Project developed Family Resource Centers at each site offering books, videos, and pamphlets for both parents and youth, along with internet access with helpful information and referral services for families. Funding for this program was awarded by the FL Dept. of Children & Families, for the purposes of preventing family violence in Miami-Dade County. Photos and details: http://fcfcfl.org/news.htm

With Trinity Church as the Lead Agency, Elijah Network and Miami’s River of Life as partners. 4 church locations: Trinity (North Miami), Iglesia Buen Pastor (Hialeah), New Bethel Baptist (Liberty City) and Grace of God (Goulds). OCT 2003 FCFC helped host the 2003 Governor's Faith & Community Conference:

"Strengthening Florida's Families." October 3, at the Signature Grand in Ft. Lauderdale. Speakers: Governor Jeb Bush, Mr. Jim Towey, Office of the White House; Mr. Luis Cortes Nueva Esperanza; and secretaries from Florida’s departments of Children and Families, Workforce Innovation, Education, and others. With the Elijah Network, a collaboration of FBO'’s using the LifeSkills and Strengthening Families programs to prevent juvenile crime and substance abuse.

July 2002 "Faith in our Workforce" Featured national-level experts who informed pastors, the business community and workforce professionals about creative collaborations with the faith community nationally that are helping more people obtain and retain their jobs. Co-sponsors: South Florida Workforce, Miami-Dade College, FCFC, the Hudson Institute's "Faith in Communities" Initiative & area Chambers of Commerce.
