The Challenge: There are more than 15,000 children and youth in Miami Dade with a parent who is in jail or prison. National research has shown that these children are very likely to end up in jail themselves unless they have role models who mentor them and show them how to make healthy life choices. And even though they don't have a parent in prison, many thousands more children and youth have been negatively affected by crime in our neighborhoods.
The Opportunity: FCFC Mentoring seeks to come alongside children and youth in S FL who have been impacted by crime with positive role models. We're also partnering with the Service Network for Children of Inmates to connect caring adult mentors to selected children and youth who have an incarcerated parent.
Mentoring is about being who you are. Nothing special is required except compassion and concern for kids with needs.
An Invitation: We'd like you to consider being a friend to one of our kids. We'll train you, match you with a compatible child or youth and provide all kinds of fun activities & support during your mentoring journey.
