The Service Network for Children of Inmates and the Florida Department of Corrections made history! For the first time ever in Florida a child got to visit with her mother over the internet and it happened here at FCFC with Broward Correctional Institution. Video visitation is the same as using skype or ichat only extremely secure. This moment has been two years in the making. FCFC is already taking families to see their incarcerated mom every quarter. With this new opportunities families will be able to see each other twice as much for a fraction of the cost.
One mom had not seen her two and half year old in 8 months, and he literally interacted with his mom like she was in the room. Another mom got to talk to her daughter about college plans for when she graduates high school in June. These are experiences families take for granted everyday, but to these moms and their children, they are priceless. I'm sure you can imagine.
Join us in this effort. You can volunteer to be a chaperone for one of our family bonding visits at a prison and see this first hand. Together we are reaching out, rebuilding, and reconnecting lives.
